Two new editorial illustrations

These two watercolors were done as part of an editorial assignment (an article that dealt with the use of cosmetics and other beauty products and the attitudes surrounding them). The spread (the first image) was a bit of an experiment, as I painted it on clayboard. In the past, I've only ever used watercolor paper when using watercolors. It was certainly an interesting surface to work with, but I definitely prefer paper.

Let Them Eat Cake

I've never really done a poster illustration, so this is somewhat of a first for me. I decided to tackle the current economic/Wall Street issue, but using less of a "doom-and-gloom" approach (and I wanted it to have the feel of a fashion illustration). I think the situation at the time of the French Revolution relates well to today.

Lil' Rooster

Here is a quick little pen and ink drawing done as part of a practice sample for one of my classes. This is typically the second phase of my artwork, following a pencil sketch and prior to the addition of watercolor. Happy Valentines Day, everyone!

Food + Finance

Here are my two latest pieces of artwork, created for Markets class. I wanted to tie together the concepts of food and finance (the latter being particularly relevant right now) in a pleasant way. Here they are! They're done in watercolor and digital media. I'll be adding prints of at least one of the two to the shop. I hope everyone is having a great week and enjoying the warmer weather that most of the country is getting!!

Fille et Lapin

The weekend was super-busy between schoolwork, my graduate review, and my job, but here's a sketch I inked, and then polished off with a little watercolor/digital media. I'm thinking of offering it in the shop as a small print or postcard. Rabbits are infesting my sketchbook these days!

New art to share

I thought I'd share a pair of my recent illustrations done in my Markets class. These are portraits of Reese Witherspoon and Christina Ricci, done in digital media. I don't plan on selling prints of these as they're strictly portfolio pieces, but if you're interested in them, you can contact me to purchase prints. They each measure 8.5 in x 11in. More art is in the works. Happy Thursday, everyone!!
