Another one...

When I lived in Savannah during my college days, I always thought a Vespa would be such a fun way to get around...especially if it were robin's egg blue or pink! However, my fear of careless drivers coupled with Savannah's many cobblestone streets was more than enough to make me stick with driving my car and getting around on foot. Still, one can dream...

Vector work!

My most recent work has taken a turn with which I'm very pleased. Until now, almost all of my personal work has consisted of a combination of ink and watercolor with digital painting/collage. At my day job, I spend the vast majority of my time working in Illustrator, and I've become very fond of vector art. Despite being pressed for free time due to work (and now the holidays), I've been experimenting with how my personal style would translate to vector, and this is the result! I won't be turning my back on my bottled ink and beloved watercolor palette, but I've come to love Illustrator very much! There will be plenty more to come!

Happy holidays, all!!

Illustration Friday 9/3/10: "Dessert"

Here's a piece that I did last summer, done in watercolor and ink. I hope to also create a brand new illustration for this week's topic! Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone!

New Dog Postcards

Since I initially created my series of dog postcards (over a year ago while I was a grad student at SCAD), I've been slowly adding to the set. They've been quite popular, so I've been taking suggestions on which breeds to depict. Here are the latest!

Doodle

...just a little experimental illustration that I did recently with my usual combination of digital and traditional media. I've been experimenting with doing all-digital vector work...I hope to have some results worthy of showing soon!

A few new things

...just a little bit of personal work I've done lately. Aside from my day job and commissions, I've been trying to squeeze in as many personal projects as possible both for practice and for my own enjoyment. Can you tell that Spring and Summer weather have been a big influence as of late? :)

Little Ladybugs

Just a little sketch I thought I'd share that I did this weekend using ink and watercolor. My husband and I were out for a walk and there were ladybugs everywhere! So, naturally, I decided to sketch a few.

Happy Saturday!

Illustration Friday Topic: "Early"

....as in, the early bird gets the worm!

This a postcard design that I did a while back. I'm working on a couple of new sets of cards, so keep an eye out for them here and on my website!

Illustration Friday Topic: "Equipment"

So here's my entry for this week's Illustration Friday topic, "Equipment." I'd like to dedicate this one to my mother since Mother's Day was last weekend; she is a hairstylist, and these are her tools of the trade!

I created this piece using ink and digital media as a magazine spot illustration a year ago.

Illustration Friday Topic: "Linked"

For several years, I've enjoyed looking at each week's topics and artwork on Illustration Friday (www.illustrationfriday.com). This week, I felt the theme was very appropriately related to a favorite piece of mine, "Love is in the Air." The beautiful Spring weather outside also reminds me of this illustration!

A Smilin' Daffodil

Sorry for the hiatus! The last couple of months have been busy as I've been settling into my day job and the new area, but rest assured, I've got new artwork to show!

...welcome, Spring!! This is my favorite time of year. I was beginning to think that winter would never end in Atlanta, but the warm weather has finally arrived.

More to come!

Glancing Backward

I'd forgotten how much I enjoy this piece. This was a collection I designed in my Fashion Sketching/Illustration class back in 2008. Sometimes there's a lot to be gained by looking at past work. I plan to do more fashion illustration in the near future.

Sweet Couple

...and as promised, here's the second piece I've been working on. This was a private commission done for a lovely Australian couple. I hope they'll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it for them!

Welcome, 2010!

Happy New Year, everyone! I had an excellent holiday season and I hope everyone else did, as well. I took a much-needed trip home to Tennessee, and now I'm ready to get back to the drawing board (literally). Here's my latest personal piece, which I'll be displaying in a frame I recently found at the amazing Paris on Ponce here in Atlanta. If you're a local or if you're passing through, this place is a must-visit! It's full of charming knick knacks, vintage decor, and Parisian-themed pieces.

I've got a couple of other pieces in the works which I'll share once they're complete (which will be very soon).
